Looking ahead to 2016
I was reading an old issue of Runner’s World today (January 2015 maybe) and there was a story of a young girl who suffered from both anorexia and bulimia at different points of her life. During her recovery she took up running and has gone on to run over 150 marathons in the space of 3-4 years. It was one of those stories that made me think about where to take my running.
As I sat there reading I started thinking about next year and came up with the foolish idea of running 12 marathons. 1 a month for 12 months – raising money for charity. Foolish? Maybe. Doable? Definitely.
This plan has sat in my head all day. I told Mrs E and she thought I was mad. I think I’m mad – but in a nice way.
I sent a quick tweet to a contact at Asics to see if they would get involved. Nothing has come back. I doubt they will – but I will be wearing Asics anyway (creature of habit).
A quick Google search revealed that there are training plans out there for this exact sort of undertaking. I found one from Runner’s World USA : How to Train to Run 12 Marathons in 12 Months – it seemed straight forward and training for the first one would be easy enough.
Where would the problems lie? Injury, motivation, mojo, illness, lack of sponsorship. I’m sure there are many that will come into view as time goes on.
One thing is certain – this is an idea I’m going to continue to research. It may happen – it may not, but for now it’s quite an exciting prospect.
12 Marathons in 12 Months. Anyone fancy joining me?
