Two years in the making…
On 22 October 2011 I made a decision that was to change my life. The decision to take up running was made after a Saturday afternoon visit to Marks and Spencer to get some suit trousers. That didn’t go well and I found myself needing a 38″ waist pair. I’d never been a 38″ waist. Okay – 36″ waist in jeans, but 38″ was not going to happen. I left the store fed up.
I remember the day – in the car home I decided to start running. I’d started before but had given up due to lack of time and energy. This time was different. I’d been shocked. So I did it.
My first run was 1.29Km and it took me 11 minutes and 11 seconds. It killed me. I’d read that most people give up in the first two weeks – I was determined not to do this. I didn’t. I carried on and in December ’11 I managed 5K.. January saw me run 10K.
So there’s the back story.
Today I’m proud to say that after just under two years I finally completed the Cardiff Half Marathon in a time of 2:14:42. What a feeling. Just amazing.
I have nothing else to say.
